About This Waterfall
Draining from the famous Grinnell Glacier, Grinnell Creek produces one of the most significant waterfalls in Glacier National Park where it thunders down the valley's headwall in a series of falls and cascades totaling about 960 feet in height. Though there are distinct sections to the falls, other than the initial 280-foot tall horsetail it has proven hard to delimit exactly where each tier ends and the next begins. At cursory glance and without being able to survey the falls thoroughly it looks like there may be about 7 distinct sections, but none taller than the first drop. Grinnell Falls can be seen easily from the Grinnell Glacier Trail, but as the trail veers away from the creek as it climbs the headwall there is no way to closely approach the falls.
