About This Waterfall

The Harrison Glacier produces a significant volume of melt water - at least during the summer months - and sends forth as many as six distinct stream which cascade into Harrison Basin, all of which drop for hundreds of feet. The largest and most significant of those streams features an impressive set of falls, dropping almost 1,400 feet in all, made up of two sheer leaps of 490 feet and 550 feet respectively, with about 300 vertical feet of cascades in between. Several smaller streams will often intermingle with the stream making up this waterfall, which makes it appear even more significant during the peak of snow melt. Unfortunately there are no trails into Harrison Basin, and given the area is prime Grizzly Bear territory, off trail hiking is not recommended, so the best way to view this waterfall will likely be from the air. We had previously listed this waterfall with a drop of over 2,000 feet and based this on the cumulative drop from the toe of the Harrison Glacier because of the presence of another waterfall right below the falls on the large stream which harbors the two main drops which make up the falls as outlined here. We have opted to not count this as part of Harrison Basin Falls because the distance between the upper fall and the main drops was simply too great - nearly 2,000 linear feet.
