About This Waterfall

Harsprånget is a now de-watered series of cascades along the Lule River which is now the site of the largest hydroelectric plant in Sweden. According to various sources, the falls are said to drop 245 feet over a run of approximately 3 kilometers. Based on aerial imagery available on Google Earth, the length of the falls seems likely to be less than one-quarter of that at best. The height is likely based on the measurement of head of the hydroelectric system as well, and we would postulate the actual drop of the falls was more like 100 feet at best. The falls are effectively dry and only flow when there is enough water in the Lule River for the spillway on the dam above the falls to be opened.
