Hidden Creek Falls
Located near Baker Lake, north of Concrete. Driving east on Highway 20 from Sedro Woolley, turn north on the Baker Lake Road (FR # 11) at Birdsview. Follow the Baker Lake Road to its end at the Baker River trailhead 26 ½ miles from Highway 20. Follow the Baker River trail for ½ mile, and bear right on the Baker Lake Trail, which crosses the Baker River on a long suspension bridge. Follow the Baker Lake Trail for another 1-½ miles to the footbridge crossing Hidden Creek, with the bottom of the falls just upstream.Hidden Creek is one of the major eastern tributaries of the Baker Lake drainage. The stream starts in meadows on the southern slopes of Hagen Mountain, and flows relatively level for a few miles. Shortly before reaching Baker Lake, however, the creek plunges down a spectacular gorge, dropping almost 1700 feet in about 2/3 of a mile. I suspect that most of that is via a waterfall of some sort, however confirming this theory will likely prove to be quite a feat. The Baker Lake trail crosses Hidden Creek at the bottom of the falls, where hikers can look upstream at the imposing walls of the gorge and watch the creek crashing about 150 feet down a steep boulder cascade - much like Olympic National Park's Dosewallips Falls - but the better parts of the falls appear to be extremely difficult to view. With afternoon sun, the falls can be partially seen across Baker Lake, but there aren't many clear views. Should more revealing perspectives present themselves, the ratings will increase accordingly, but as it is, this is just a side note to other, much more worthy waterfalls in the area.
