About This Waterfall
Of the nearly dozen Horsetail Falls found in California, this booming cataract along Rush Creek is among the best. Though Rush Creek is incorporated into a hydroelectric system which draws off a significant volume of water during the later summer months, the large basin produces an impressive volume of water during the spring and early summer. When flowing, the falls thunder over 225 feet and can stretch to over 200 feet in width at its apex as well.Horsetail Falls seems to be the proper colloquial name for this waterfall (Horsetail Falls seems to be a common name along the eastern side of the Sierra). Rush Creek Falls is a lesser used name but is equally appropriate. We've also seen this waterfall referred to at times as Rainbow Falls, but this seems to be a dated and rarely used title now.
