About This Waterfall

Houghton Falls is generally thought of as Michigan's tallest waterfall (though two falls in the Pictured Rocks area are actually taller), and it is certainly one of the better falls in the state. The falls had been privately owned and posted. Michigan's Department of Natural Resources purchased the property in late 2018 with the idea of creating a Memorial Park dedicated to Veterans. The USGS recognizes the name of this waterfall as Houghton Falls, but locally it is more commonly known as Douglass Houghton Falls.
