About This Waterfall

Huckleberry Falls is the largest waterfall along Huckleberry Creek in Mount Rainier National Park. The falls are located a short distance downstream of where the three forks of Huckleberry Creek which drain from the basins north of Sunrise all converge… The falls drop a total of 92 feet in two steps, first plunging a sheer 68 feet as the creek squeezes through a narrow notch at the top of the cliffband, and then tumbling another 26 feet over a large fractured andesite shelf which forces the stream to scatter into multiple side-by-side rivulets. Below the falls the creek is lined with copious amounts of Lewis Monkeyflower. Huckleberry Creek at this point along its course drains from an area covering just under two square miles. Because the basin is located entirely above 5,000 feet in elevation, the drainage will receive significant winter snow pack, and will flow with considerable vigor through July. By the beginning of August the volume of the stream will be reduced, however there is enough ground water seeping to the surface in the area immediately above the falls that despite the low flow which may be contributed by its three principle tributaries, the creek should flow with at least a modest volume through the entire summer and autumn seasons.
