About This Waterfall
Hydnefossen is a tall but moderately low volume waterfall found in Hemsedal near the town of Ullsåk. The falls drop a total of approximately 430 meters (1,410 feet) in two primary sections. The upper fall is a sheer plunge of 155 meters where the Hydna splits apart and falls in as many as 5-6 parallel streams (usually there are at least 3 streams) which spread out and cover a nearly 100 meter wide breadth of cliff. At the base of the plunge the stream gathers into a narrower channel and cascades steeply down bedrock steps for another 275 meters. During the peak of snow melt season the falls can appear quite impressive, however by the late summer and autumn months the volume of water present in the falls can be reduced considerably.
