King Edward VIII Falls is a narrow 840 foot tall plunging waterfall found where the Semang River plunges off the edge of the Pakarima escarpment in northwestern Guyana. The exact location of the waterfall has been very difficult to pinpoint for the last several decades due to a common confusion of a waterfall with a similar name - King Edward VI Falls - which is a series of rapids occurring along the Courantyne River on the eastern border of the country.King Edward VIII Falls was discovered in 1935 by explorer Paul A. Zahl who was conducting aerial surveys of the Pakarima escarpment. The existence of the waterfall was not widely publicized until 1937 when an article was published by the Royal Geographic Society in The Geographic Journal (Vol. 88, #3, Sept. 1937). It is thus far unclear exactly who first named the waterfall but it appears it was suggested by one Dr. G. J. Williams in 1935 around the same time Zahl recorded the falls.
