Kinney Lake Falls is located almost due east of the shelter at the Kinney Lake Campground along the Berg Lake trail in Mount Robson Provincial Park. From the junction of Highways 5 and 16 in Tete Jaune Cache, follow the Yellowhead Highway (16) east for 16.3 kilometers to Mount Robson Meadows and turn left onto Kinney Lake Road, then follow it to the trailhead at its end in another 2 kilometers. Expect to encounter a crowded parking area, the Berg Lake Trail is the most popular hike in the Canadian Rockies. The shelter at the campground is encountered at the 7 kilometer mark along the trail, and barring a few short sections of moderate climbing the trail is mostly flat. The falls are best seen about 100 meters before the shelter is reached.Kinney Lake Falls is a moderate to low volume waterfall found along a stream which emerges from underground about 800 vertical feet up the side of the mountain above the Kinney Lake Campground in Mount Robson Provincial Park. The falls appear to drop somewhere the in range of 200 vertical feet, however because there are no clear views of the entire falls from the Berg Lake Trail, obtaining an accurate estimate of the total height proved to be somewhat tricky - it's very possible the falls may be considerably taller.
The falls drop is at least two distinct parts, first as a well defined horsetail type drop of perhaps 75-100 feet, followed by a longer series of steep cascades which stairstep down over the orange-tinted bedrock, lined with thick sub-alpine forest on either side of the stream channel. The total drop of the second tier is not known, and there is a possibility that there may be more tiers further downstream before the creek subsides under the deep talus in the forest below. Access to the base of the falls should be possible by following the dry streambed up the mountain from where the Berg Lake Trail crosses it about 220 meters before reaching the shelter at the Kinney Lake Campground. We had previously utilized the name Kinney Lake Falls for a suspected waterfall along the Robson River, however given how far away from the lake that waterfall supposedly is, we felt it better to re-purpose the name for the falls located immediately above the Kinney Lake campsites which we can confirm the existence of.
