About This Waterfall
Kjeragfossen is an unofficially named, low volume waterfall which drains from a very small catchment basin adjacent to the famous Kjeragbolten above the Lysefjorden. The falls are noteworthy for their considerable height and form, dropping approximately 715 meters (2,345 feet) in a single nearly entirely free-falling plunge, making it the tallest free-leaping waterfall in Europe and one of the tallest free-falling waterfalls on the planet. The exact height of the falls is difficult to determine due to its functionally ephemeral behavior - the stream which produces the falls only flows during periods of active snow melt or prolonged heavy precipitation. Without either condition, the waterfall will essentially be dry.
