Name of Waterfall

Lægdafossen

Description

Lægdafossen is the largest and most noteworthy waterfall which drops into the famous Nærøyfjorden. The falls descend a total of 575 meters (1,885 feet) in at least 6 distinct steps (possibly as many as 8 or 9), with the tallest individual leap dropping about 165 meters (540 feet). The basin which the Sagelvi drains from is fairly substantial in size, covering an area of about 20 square kilometers. During the spring and early summer melt season the falls can swell to a considerably large volume, but by late summer and autumn the streamflow is noticeably reduced. The falls are only accessible by boat, but are one of the cornerstone attractions along the popular tourist cruise that runs between Flåm and Gudvangen.
