Langfield Falls

From Trout Lake, drive west on highway 141 for 1 1/2 miles, passing the Ranger Station, then turn north on FR 88 and drive 12.7 miles to Tire Junction (FR 88 and FR 8851). Turn right and follow Road 88 for about 100 feet to the signed trailhead. You can also reach the falls by driving south on FR 88 for about 10 miles from it's junction with FR 90 at the Lewis River, about 3 miles west of Twin Falls campground. The trail leads downstream for about 500 feet to a viewpoint and a plaque commemorating K.C. Langfield.Langfield Falls is one of a pair of fairly easily accessible waterfalls near Tire Junction north of Trout Lake in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. The falls veil out over a prominent ledge of conglomerated volcanic breccia, falling 59 feet into a small pool. The falls will range from just a few yards wide to almost 75 feet wide in full flow, greatly altering the character of the whole area. Oddly many sources cite this waterfall as dropping 110 feet when its plainly clear its only half that tall.The falls were discovered by and named after K.C. Langfield, a ranger in the Mt. Adams Ranger District of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest from 1933 to 1956.
