Lava Divide Falls

Description

Lava Divide Falls is a behemoth series of plunges and horsetails that flume down the side of Park Creek's glacially carved valley on the east side of Mount Baker. The falls consist of 8 distinct tiers which drop a total of 992 feet over a run of about 1200 feet - though much of that distance is made up in the pools and pauses between each drop, most of the falls are vertical or nearly vertical in stature. The falls initially slide down an incline before plunging vertically, then stairstep down four successive plunges before veiling down the largest drop and cascading for the final two steps. The most unfortunate factor is that due to both the size and shape of the falls - as well as the thick forest in the area - the entire waterfall can not be seen from any one vista.
