Little Cascade Falls
Little Cascade Falls
From Highway 542 in Glacier, turn south onto the Glacier Creek Road and immediately turn left onto FSR # 37, signed for Skyline Divide. The falls will be encountered in just under 4 miles. The upper sections of the falls can be seen by scrambling up the steep left side of the creek. This is a rather attractive yet hard to fully see and appreciate waterfall found along the road leading to the Skyline Divide trailhead on the north side of Mount Baker. The falls veil and skip about 150 vertical feet down a long draw to the road, but are largely obstructed by surrounding trees. The upper half of the falls veils out over a rather wide expanse of mossy bedrock, creating a very scenic "dripping wall" of sorts, before the creek narrows into a more constricted chute for the second half of its descent.
For several years this waterfall has posed a conundrum to us in that we were not actually sure what stream its located along. It had always been assumed that this was Cascade Creek because the number of streams which Forest Service Road 37 crosses matched up, but the maps place Cascade Creek 2/3 of a mile west of this location. Turns out Cascade Creek is indeed to the west and this is an unnamed stream which drains off of the rib between Cascade and Deadhorse Creeks. We had originally listed this entry as Cascade Creek Falls because we thought it to be located along that stream. Further investigation have led to clarification that this is not the case, so we've changed the name to reflect that. There are no prominent place names nearby to name the falls after, so we've chosen to call it Little Cascade Falls in keeping at least some relation to the previous title it bore.
