Name of Waterfall

Little Zigzag Falls

Description

From the small town of Rhododendron, take Highway 26 east towards Government Camp for 4.3 miles and turn left onto Kiwanis Camp Road and follow it to its end in another 2 1/4 miles at a large parking area and an old bridge spanning the Little Zigzag River (part of this historic Mount Hood Scenic Byway). The falls are an easy 1/3 mile walk along a well graded trail which starts next to the bridge.Little Zigzag Falls is a smaller, but very scenic waterfall found minutes off of the route of the old Mount Hood Scenic Byway near Government Camp. The falls stairstep down a pair of rounded, channeled ledges for a total of 41 feet before the river flows through a dark forest glade in the canyon below. The Little Zigzag River is partly spring fed and partly fueled by melt water from icefields on Mount Hood. The area does receive considerable snowfall and below freezing temperatures in the winter months but the falls flow consistently all year long and do see a greatly increased stream volume in the late spring months.
