Name of Waterfall

Log Choke Falls

Description

The Tye River roars over a double falls, notorious for scaring kayakers but unknown to the majority of passers by. It can be viewed from just off of both US 2 and the Old Cascade Highway (FR 67), but both viewpoints are reached by climbing down to the river a good 70 feet below the roads. During lower water periods, the majority of the water dropping over the upper tier may be concealed by the logs draped across the falls' face. The falls were named such because when kayakers began running this section of the Tye River, the falls were choked with even more logs than they are now. And even at that, there are 4 or 5 logs, each around 100 feet long, permanently wedged in the upper tier of the falls.
