About This Waterfall
From Interstate 5 in Burlington follow Highway 20 east to the Baker Lake Road, and then go just over 12 miles and turn left onto FSR #12, signed for Schriebers Meadows and Mount Baker Recreation Area. Follow Road 12 for just over 12 miles, following signs pointing to the South Fork Nooksack River and Elbow Lake at all major junctions. The falls will be visible on the right side of the road just before the road leading to the Bridal Veil Falls trailhead (see link below for more) branches off to the left.Loomis Mountain Falls is a small volume but rather significant waterfall found adjacent to the road leading to the Elbow Lake trailhead south of Mount Baker. The visible portion of the falls drop a total of 243 feet in four steps, however on the final 77-foot tall tier can be seen from the road - the rest of the falls is only visible by scrambling up the slope facing the falls. Topographic maps suggest the falls actually extend a considerable distance further up the mountain, perhaps dropping for a total of nearly 800 feet in all, however the twisting course of the stream and the steep terrain will likely prevent access to whatever upper sections of the falls do exist. Additionally the unnamed stream which produces the falls is quite small and will likely run dry by mid September in most years, if not earlier.
