Lower Deer Falls

Description

Lower Deer Falls is a very inconspicuous waterfall that is surprisingly easy to get to, yet equally surprising in how little known it has remained. Topography of the area would not hint at the North Fork Skykomish River flowing through a second gorge after it pours over impressive Deer Falls a short distance upstream, yet that is exactly what it does, as it cascades 34 feet in a roaring veil-shaped fall surrounded by cliffs that rise 50-60 feet above the river. Were it not for several unimproved campsites nearby the falls may be entirely unknown despite being so close to a major forest road.
