About This Waterfall
Follow Highway 89 for 13 1/2 miles east of its junction with Interstate 5 near the city of Mount Shasta. Watch for a sign for Fowler Camp / McCloud Falls and turn right, following the paved road for 1.25 miles to the day use parking area at its end (stay right at the Y junction). The viewpoint for the falls is about 100 feet away. This is the third and final of the triplicate of waterfalls along the McCloud River near Mount Shasta. This fall is a modest plunging punchbowl type fall of all of 12 feet, dropping into a large pool which serves as an excellent swimming hole during the summer months. Lower McCloud River Falls is a much more popular waterfall for swimming and sunbathing than it is an attraction for waterfall hunters, so most people will find themselves spending time just lounging around along the river above the falls when visiting.
