About This Waterfall

While featuring the same volume as its upstream sibling, Lower Tahquamenon Falls is a substantially small waterfall. Here the Tahquamenon River splits into two channels and drops about 15 feet in all - the west channel in three steps and the east channel in two steps. The two channels are separated by a large island and cannot be seen collectively from any one location. Below the falls the river creates a huge swirling pool, which is so wide that no bridge has been built across the river to access the viewing deck for the east channel of the falls - visitors must instead utilize a row boat to cross the river in order to access that side of the falls (the west channel is however accessed by boardwalks and trails).
