Marble Creek Falls

Description

Marble Creek possesses a pair of notable waterfalls in the vicinity of Lake Merwin. The upper and larger of the two slides 92 feet down a long slabby exposure of bedrock within a narrow forested glen. During the winter months when tree are bare the falls can be seen through the trees from the highway, but during the spring and summer the existence of the falls is entirely hidden from the road.
Initially we thought the falls to stand around 50 feet tall. Greg Plumb's "Waterfall Lover's Guide" books have likewise agreed with that estimate, so imagine our surprise when we measured the falls to find it actually stands nearly 100 feet tall! The culprit of this deception is the immense amount of foreshortening due to the relatively gradual slope of the falls. Unfortunately this also makes viewing the falls difficult as well thanks to the creek flowing away from the falls at a 90 degree angle and cliffs flanking the opposite side of the stream.
