About This Waterfall
Follow the Squamish Valley Road / Squamish Main for 48km (paved for the first 19km) from Highway 99 north of Squamish. Turn left onto the Elaho Main and drive for another 8km to the bridge over Maude Frickert Creek and the impossible-to-miss waterfall.Maude Frickert Falls - more affectionately known as "Old Maude Frickert" - is a stout but powerful roadside waterfall dropping 26 meters (87 feet) in a boisterous veiling display immediately before its namesake creek merges with the Elaho River. The force of the water slamming into the bedrock at the base of the falls produces an always constant plume of mist which keeps the bridge across the creek perpetually moist and perpetuates this location's other and perhaps more accurate moniker of Carwash Bridge. Given the nature of the terrain around the falls, there is a pretty decent chance of additional tiers being located upstream from the visible portion of the falls found adjacent to the road. Thus far we are not aware of anyone attempting to document any other potential waterfalls on this creek however, so this is pure speculation at this point. Aerial imagery suggests there may in fact be a multitude of small falls to be found, though its not clear if any of them are as big as (or bigger than) this fall. Maude Frickert Creek drains from a basin approximately 17 square kilometers (10.5 square miles) in area, with two large lakes supplying the primary runoff in the headwaters of the creek. The high elevation of the plateau where the lakes are located ensures a heavy winter snow pack to help fuel the stream during the melt season. By late summer the volume of the creek will be reduced considerably from its spring time peak, but not to the point where it is visually diminished.
