About This Waterfall
Mazama Lake Falls is located immediately below the outlet of Mazama Lake, along the Chain Lakes trail in the Mount Baker Wilderness area. Follow SR 542 to its end at Artists Point (usually only accessible July to October), the follow the Chain Lakes trail around Table Mountain, watching for signs pointing to Iceberg Lake. Mazama Lake is encountered about 1 3/4 miles from the trailhead. The falls are just downstream of the outlet.Shortly below small Mazama Lake, one of a dozen streams feeding Wells Creek cascades about 40 feet down a canyon carved in the ubiquitous ash formations around Mount Baker. The falls start by cascading about 10 feet before veiling 30 feet over a smooth ledge. Fed by both Mazama and Iceberg Lake, the small stream flows year round with remarkable consistency, but it is quite a bit more substantial in the early summer.
