About This Waterfall

The falls were at one time known as Browns Falls, named for US Army Commander in Chief Jacob Brown, but the native Dakota name has stood the test of time. Minnehaha comes from the Dakota mni, meaning water, and haha meaning fall - so quite literally just Waterfall.
