About This Waterfall
Take the Sea-to-Sky Highway (99) to the town of Pemberton, then at the stoplight (at the Petro Canada station) turn north onto Pemberton Meadows Road and proceed through town. In 0.8km bear left at the roundabout, cross the railroad tracks, go two blocks, then turn right at the T-intersection, still following Pemberton Meadows Road. Continue for another 23.6 kilometers, then turn right onto the Lillooet River Forest Service Road. Reset your odometer and prepare for a long, dusty drive. Keep left at all major junctions (ignore the closed Meager Creek Forest Service Road at the 38km point) and continue 41 kilometers up the Lillooet River FSR to where the road passes through a burn area. Just before the road descends a hill and parallels right along the side of the river, the falls will be visible across the valley on the slopes of Mount Meager.Mount Meager Falls is a moderately tall waterfall situated in a narrow, twisting canyon located on the northwest flank of Mount Meager near Keyhole Hot Springs in the upper Lillooet River valley. The falls drop down a fall with at least three distinct steps, falling for perhaps 60 meters in all, but due to the twisting nature of both the canyon and the falls, at least one third of the falls is hidden from view from any given location along the Lillooet River Forest Service Road, despite the fact that the area around the falls burned in a recent forest fire, which likely made the waterfall more visible than it previously was. Unfortunately because the falls can only be seen at a distance, there is no way to achieve an accurate measurement of its true height. The unnamed stream which produces this waterfall drains from an area of about 6 square kilometrs (about 2.3 square miles), and like the stream which forms South Keyhole Canyon Falls just a few kilometers further up the valley, it originates in a small glacier on the side of Mount Meager, which allows it to flow with a consistent volume through the summer months. However despite the significantly larger drainage size, and possibly a larger glacial mass serving as the source, when we surveyed the falls in May of 2018 it appeared as if there was considerably less volume in this stream compared to its sibling waterfall further up the valley - whether this was just a seasonal variation due to the more mild spring time temperatures and lack of vigorous snow and ice melt, or if the stream is simply smaller in nature is not entirely clear. Either way, the falls should flow with a healthy volume during the warm months of the summer.
