About This Waterfall
Myrdalsfossen is a prominent waterfall which can be seen from the famous Flåm Railway as it climbs up out of Flåmsdalen en route to the station at Myrdal. The falls are broken up into three distinct sections over a linear run of about 600 meters of the Myrdøla. The upper and main part of the falls cascades down a long ramping slope, splitting into three streams and then plunging into a gorge, dropping a total of about 110 meters (360 feet). About 150 meters further downstream is a second fall of about 30 meters (100 feet) where the stream crashes down a narrow flume-like gorge. Finally another 75 meters further downstream is a series of 6-7 cascades in immediate succession which drop a total of about 45 meters (145 feet). The total elevation loss between the top and bottom of the falls is about 260 meters (850 feet).
