About This Waterfall

Nameless Lake Falls is accessed from the Goat Creek Trail south of Riffe Lake. Drive east from Morton along Highway 12 and turn right onto Kosmos Road, signed for Riffe Lake and Taidnapam Park. Turn left very shortly, still following signs for Riffe Lake and then proceed another 4 1/4 miles across the bridge over Riffe Lake. Turn right immediately on the other side of the bridge, follow the gravel logging road for 3/4 mile, and then bear left again onto FR 2750 (which isn't signed). Shortly after turning onto Road 2750 is a sign pointing the way to the Goat Creek Trail, which is reached in another 3 3/4 miles of narrow and winding, but generally good condition road. The trail is unsigned but is obvious where it starts along the old roadbed. Nameless Lake Falls is encountered 3.8 miles along the trail, about one-tenth of a mile before reaching the nameless lake in the basin above. The uppermost waterfall along the West Fork of Goat Creek occurs shortly downstream from where its creek flows out of a nameless lake and tumbles 50 feet over a very chaotically scoured ledge - first plunging and then splitting into essentially five "fingers" where the rock forms a bulbous protrusion, producing an almost circular shape as the water channels around the rock and congeals together again at its base. Chances are that during periods of lower flow the water may only occupy two or three (if that of these channels, and the falls will not have quite the same shape as during the freshet. This waterfall has no official or colloquially recognized name, and while its shape is rather unique we couldn't think of a good title to bestow it based on its characteristics alone. So instead, we opted to name it for the lake situated just upstream instead - except the lake has no name either! So, in honor of this paucity of placenames and lack of further creativity, we dub this waterfall Nameless Lake Falls.
