About This Waterfall
Noble Falls is a low volume, but incredibly scenic side-by-side waterfall along Meadow Brook on the northwest side of Cannon Mountain near the summit of Franconia Notch. The falls occur where two separate branches of Meadow Brook converge and drop over a broad cliff, the left side falling 46 feet and the right 55 feet. Each segment of the falls can vary in width depending on the flow in Meadow Brook - ranging from perhaps 15-20 feet wide during the peak of the spring freshet down to not even a foot wide during the summer and early autumn months (assuming there hasn't been periods of rain to bring it back to life). Meadow Brook has an incredibly small drainage area above Noble Falls, covering roughly one-third of a square mile (about 185 acres). When surveyed in October of 2015 the falls were flowing with barely a trickle of water, thanks to a fairly prolonged dry spell. However as tropical storms often send heavy rain into New England in the summer and autumn months, the falls can easily be brought to life at any time of year. Expect the flow of the stream to dimish quickly if there is not prolonged, consistent rain or snow melt however.A small handmade sign nailed to a tree near the falls calls it out as Bridesmaid Falls, in contrast to nearby Bridal Veil Falls on Copper Mine Brook, one drainage to the south. However the proper historical name for this waterfall is indeed Noble Falls, named for one Lafayette Noble who is said to be credited with its discovery.
