North Bristol Cliffs Falls
North Bristol Cliffs Falls
The Hogback is a narrow and steep rounded ridge that goes for several miles on a north south axis. Along the way, there are a few small drainages that capture a limited amount of water, perhaps the two most noteworthy of which create lofty but low volume waterfalls just south of Bristol. The northern of the two streams originates in a series of small ponds, and upon reaching the edge of the Bristol Cliffs flumes down a long series of horsetails and cascades that drop a total of about 400 feet, based on one meter resolution lidar data, though the exact height of the falls is difficult to determine due to the exact location of the top and bottom not being clear. Unlike adjacent South Bristol Cliffs Falls, this one is difficult to see when the surrounding trees are in leaf. Below the falls the stream cascades through the massive talus pile known locally as Hell's Half-acre.
