About This Waterfall

Ølmåfossen is situated on the south side of Romsdalen about 17 km east of the junction with Highway 64 in Åndalsness. The falls can be easily seen from the E136 from several places in the valley, but there are limited places where one can pull off the road to take pictures.Ølmåfossen is an officially named waterfall of lofty stature but not terribly significant volume found in Norway's renowned Romsdalen. Fed by a small glacier and a handful of modest lakes, the falls veil about 710 meters (2,330 feet) down the immense cliffs lining the famous Trollveggen - which feature the tallest unbroken cliffs in Europe (just not at the falls). The falls are visible from the town of Marstein and are likely often confused as the more well-known but almost never recognized and now dry Mongefossen, which is located a few kilometers further to the east on the north wall of the valley. We had previously listed this waterfall as Ølmåafossen, however Ølmåfossen is the official name and correct spelling to use.
