About This Waterfall
Natural Resources Canada lists O'Shaughnessy Falls as an officially named waterfall adjacent to the Kananaskis Trail (Alberta Highway 40) just south of Barrier Lake. An ornate wooden sign at a pullout at the location provided marks a small spring-fed cascading stream as the falls, but as the creek neither cascades over bedrock, nor really falls in any sense of the imagination (it tumbles about 2-3 meters down moss and grass covered rocks on the hillside), it should not be considered a legitimate waterfall by even the most liberal definitions. There is a possibility that another feature in the area, on an adjacent stream if anything, might actually be the real O'Shaughnessy Falls, but at this point have no evidence to prove such a theory.
