Name of Waterfall

Øvstebrufossen

Description

The parking area at the top of the falls can be found 36.5 km east of Stryn along Route 15. Watch for a wide pull-off on the south side of the road and a sign marking the falls. If you pass the junction with Route 258 you’ve gone too far. Westbound travelers will want to drive three-quarters of a kilometer west from the southern portal of the Ospelitunnelen to the aforementioned parking area. A short rocky trail leads down to viewpoints adjacent to the side and top of the falls.Øvstebrufossen is a fairly significant waterfall adjacent to Route 15 just west of the southern entrance to the Ospelitunnelen. The falls begin by sliding and cascading over ledges and ramps which progressively increase in pitch, and eventually revert to a nearly vertical veiling horsetail type fall, dropping a total of about 87 meters (285 feet). The falls are oriented such that they fall away from the road however, which makes viewing more than small portions quite difficult. The falls can be partially seen from switchbacks in the road downstream from the falls, but there are no safe places to park in order to view the falls from such vantages. A rough trail provides access to the top of the falls and a viewpoint about a third of the way down the falls, but offers only poor perspectives on the whole cataract.
