About This Waterfall
Periwee Falls plunges into Boundary Lake in the very northeast corner of the state. When the lake is at full pool level, the falls drop 233 feet directly into the lake. However prior to the construction of Boundary Dam the falls dropped over 300 feet - one postcard we've seen captions it specifically as 310 feet tall - to a talus slope well upstream of the natural course of the Pend Oreille River. The falls are usually referred to as Pewee Falls, but the historically correct name is said to be Periwee Falls. We've also seen an old postcard spelling the name Pierwee, which offers and interesting segway between what is assumed to be the appropriate spelling (Periwee) and what is currently used (Pewee).
