About This Waterfall

Pierces Falls is the middle and largest of three substantial waterfalls along Decker Creek near the town of Moravia. The falls, said to drop about 60 feet, consist of a broad veiling plunge-type fall, which then reverts to steep sliding cascades below. The falls are located on private property, however there appears to be a public fishing easement which may allow for legal public access. Visitors should still seek out permission from the landowner before attempting to visit the falls regardless of the legality of public access. The bedrock lining the creek in this area is said to be quite slick and there have been several fatalities in the vicinity of this waterfall, so visitors should exercise exceptional caution when visiting. If No Trespassing signs are encountered, please respect landowner rights and do not proceed.Decker Creek was at one time known as Pierces Creek, and the name of the falls carried over from the then name of the stream. An old hydroelectric facility can be found adjacent to the falls on the left side of the creek. The falls were also once known as Lower Hatfield Falls.
