About This Waterfall
Profile falls is found south of the town of Bristol, just below Route 3A. From the junction of Routes 3A and 104 in Bristol, follow Route 3A south for 1.7 miles then bear left onto Mt Hill Road and follow it down to the bottom of the hill where it crosses the Smith River and park in any of the parking areas. Trails lead upstream along either side of the Smith River (the trail on the east side of the river is much more developed though) to where the falls can be viewed.Profile Falls is a surprisingly impressive waterfall found along the Smith River as it drops to merge with the Pemigewasset River near the town of Bristol. The river rumbles about 30 feet over a slab of rock angled at about a 60-degree pitch, which is also fractured in such a way that the river slides sideways as it falls, giving the falls a roughly trapezoidal shape. On the east side of the falls a stout cliff flanks the base of the cataract, its edge contrasted perfectly with the falling water. Keen observers may notice when viewing the falls from a certain angle that the profile of a face silhouetted against the falls appears along this edge of rock.
