About This Waterfall

Pyramid Creek Falls can be seen along the Yellowhead Highway approximately 30km north of the town of Blue River.Pyramid Creek Falls is one of the most prominent waterfalls in the North Thompson area. Pyramid Creek crashes over three stairstep-style tiers before hitting a layer of bedrock which was thrust sideways that causes the water to fan out into somewhat of a pyramid shape. It is likely that the shape of the falls spurred the naming of the creek. The falls are surrounded by a small Provincial Park designed to preserve the area but unfortunately no developed access exists. Because of this, only the top half of the falls can be seen from the Yellowhead Highway. However, if you buy yourself a ticket on the Rocky Mountain Rail Tours, which operates between Vancouver and Jasper, Alberta, the train passes right next to the falls on the other side of the valley. An 1871 photograph by Benjamin F. Baltzly captioned this waterfall as Garnet River Cascade. This is the only such reference thus far encountered using this name, so it may have been an initial title given to the stream during the early cross-Rocky Mountain railroad surveys. The name Pyramid Creek Falls is recognized as the official name today.
