About This Waterfall

Royce Falls drains from the Royce Lakes and veils into the upper end of French Canyon near the Pacific Crest. While the falls aren't quite in the conversation regarding the tallest in California, the roughly 750 foot tall falls are certainly the highest elevation of the taller falls in California, with a crest elevation of nearly 11,400 feet. This high elevation ensures that the falls will flow with ample energy through the summer, but in converse are usually not melted out and visible until late June at the earliest - in some years it may be August before the falls are accessible, let alone visible, thanks to the heavy snow which falls at elevation in this part of the Sierra.
