San Juan Falls
San Juan Falls is found adjacent to the Index-Galena Road, typically accessed from Highway 2 at Index, however the road was severely damaged during the 2006 floods and is not slated for repair for several years. The falls can currently only be accessed via the Bechler River Road (FSR 65) and Jacks Pass. Best views of the falls are from about 1/4 mile west of Garland Mineral Springs (unsigned and the road is usually gated).San Juan Falls is a thin seasonal waterfall which can be seen streaming down the side of Bear Mountain near Garland Mineral Springs in the heart of Wild Sky country. Because the falls have a minuscule drainage area they flow only for a short period of the year - generally running dry by late June. When flowing, the falls appear as a pair of thin ribbons streaming 730 feet down the mountainside. The volume of the falls can be decent during the wet season, however until the Index-Galena Road is repaired the only access is via Jacks Pass, which typically doesn't open for travel until the winter snow pack has melted and by then the falls are usually reduced considerably.
