Description

This is the second tallest waterfall in Italy. The Serio River is dammed above the falls, and water is only released by the Barbellino dam 5 days out of the year (June 20th, July 18th, August 22nd, September 12th and October 3rd). Obviously, the ratings come with an asterisk because the falls are usually dry due to the waters being diverted for the generation of hydroelectric power. When they do flow, they are most impressive. We've seen evidence that suggests there are more like 5 or 6 tiers to the falls, but anything other than the three main ones can't be seen because of the narrow twisting gorge above the big drop. The main three drops are 166m, 74m, and 75m. The additional 2 or 3 tiers likely add another 100-150' to the total height of the falls.
