About This Waterfall
Service Falls is the major waterfall of the Queets River in Olympic National Park and very well may be the most difficult waterfall to access in the whole country. The falls are located in a 500 foot deep canyon with a swift river occupying it shore to shore, over 5 miles from the nearest trail and almost 30 miles from the closest road. A map of the Olympic Peninsula produced in 1930 (by whom is not known) notates the falls as being 125 feet tall, but I suspect it might be closer to 200 feet in all. To the best of my knowledge, nobody has taken a photograph of the waterfall from the ground and the only photographs that have been seen from the air only hint at what may lay deep in the canyon.
