About This Waterfall
Shomyo-daki (称名滝) is commonly called the tallest waterfall in Japan, however, it's sibling, Hannoki-no-taki, visible from the same location, is actually taller at 1640 feet, but Hannoki-no-taki is often disregarded because it's seasonal. Shomyo-daki (称名滝) drops down four steps, 230 feet, 190 feet, 315 and 413 feet respectively. The pool at the base of the falls is said to be 200 feet wide and 20 feet deep.
