Name of Waterfall

Slettafossen

Description

Slettafossen can be found 39km east of Åndalsnes along the E136. The feature is prominently signed along the highway and is difficult to miss. The Rauma River appears to feature several small-to-modest cascades and falls, though none more prominently accessible than Slettafossen, which is found in a narrow gorge where the river accelerates between sheer cliffs and drops about 11 meters (36 feet) in a furious roar. During periods of low discharge the falls take on a more stereotypical plunging form, however when the river is running at higher levels the whole gorge turns into a long ramping cascade-style fall which folds over on itself several times thanks to the shape of the gorge walls. The falls are conspicuously signed from the highway and feature a well constructed bridge spanning the gorge to allow views both upstream and down.
