About This Waterfall
This is one of perhaps a half-dozen formally unnamed waterfalls found along the various headwater streams of Spray Creek within Spray Park in Mount Rainier National Park. The Wonderland Trail doesn't follow near the course of Spray Creek at all, so there is little to no visitation to any of these waterfalls. This one in particular appears likely to be the largest in the immediate area, dropping 31 feet in a steep cascade over the ubiquitous red bedrock of the Ohanapecosh formation which permeates this part of the park. A short distance upstream there appears to be a long sliding cascade which might be best considered an upper tier to this waterfall. On our latest survey of this site, we did not have enough time to scout out the slide to determine if it was either significant enough to be considered for entry, or part of the same falls. We have not yet sussed out a good naming convention for the various small waterfalls found in Spray Park, so for the time being we're going to refer to this one as South Spray Park Falls. It is not unlikely that we may opt to change the name to something a bit more appropriate at a later date, after more data is acquired about the other waterfalls in the area.
