About This Waterfall
Stølsmaradalsfossen is one of the largest waterfalls found in the waterfall-studded valley Utladalen in Årdal. The falls drop a total of approximately 390 meters almost directly into the Utla river, beginning as a narrower plunging type falls and then veiling outwards into a broad fan-shaped curtain as it descends into the valley. Because the trails which ascent up Utladalen don't provide a direct or up close view of the falls, it hasn't achieved nearly the notoriety of neighboring Vettisfossen, despite being quite a bit taller and flowing with at least equal volume. Whether it is possible to reach the base of the falls on foot by hiking cross-country from the bottom of Vettisfossen is not known.
