About This Waterfall
Sygitowicz Creek Falls is a very nice waterfall which unfortunately has succumbed to the inevitable reach of man. The falls are situated within private property and have recently been posted, so visiting the falls is outright not possible without the landowners permission. Secondly, the creek has been harnessed for micro-hydroelectric purposes and thus the volume of the stream flowing over the falls is largely reduced - possibly to the point that the falls may dry out in the summer (which they wouldn't do naturally). Fortunately, lofty as the falls are, they can be easily (though partially) seen from Highway 9 in the valley, so not all is lost.Sygitowicz Creek and subsequently the falls were named for a polish family who settled in the Van Zandt area, descendants of whom still live in the area.
