About This Waterfall
Sylvia Falls is located just downstream of the dam retaining Lake Sylvia just outside of the town of Montesano. A trail from the parking area at the Day Use area in Lake Sylvia State Park leads past the falls but only offers partially clear views due to the thick surrounding foliage.Lake Sylvia is formed by a small 20 foot dam situated about 100 feet upstream of the top of this pretty 30-foot waterfall. Because Sylvia Creek has a small watershed, the flow of the falls fluctuates dramatically. During the wet season, the falls may be roaring, and in the late summer, just a thin stream may glide down one side of the rock (the left-hand segment usually runs dry after June). The Lake Sylvia dam at one time supplied the town of Montesano with electricity. The falls were historically recognized as Sylvia Falls.
