About This Waterfall

Tin Mine Falls is a low volume series of cascades along its namesake creek on the north side of Green Mountain in the middle of the Kitsap Peninsula. The falls drop a total of 60 feet in five distinct steps, with drops of 6, 2, 18, 23, and 11 feet respectively over a linear run of about 120 feet. Its collective height of 60 feet makes it the tallest known waterfall on the Kitsap Peninsula, but the low streamflow and disconnected nature of the five drops create an underwhelming impression. The 18 and 23 foot tiers of the falls are the most prominent, as they occur consecutively. The two smaller upper tiers are somewhat afterthoughts in comparison, and the lowermost tier cannot be easily seen with the others due to the shape of the gully where the falls occur. Tin Mine Creek is a small stream which drains from tiny Tin Mine Lake and a small basin immediately to its south, covering a total area of about two-thirds of a square mile. The stream will almost certainly dry out in the summer months, and even in the winter can be underwhelming (depending on how much precipitation has fallen recently).
