About This Waterfall
Toccoa Falls is among Georgia's tallest waterfalls, and is one of the tallest free-falling waterfalls in the Appalacians. On November 6, 1977 a small earthen dam upstream of the falls failed and sent a surge of 176 million gallons of water over the falls, killing 39 people in the vicinity of Toccoa Falls College a short distance downstream.
