About This Waterfall
Exit Interstate 5 at Cottage Grove (Exit 174) and drive east on Row River Road for approximately 19 1/2 miles to signed Brice Creek Road # 22. Follow Brice Creek Road for 8.3 miles to the third bridge across Brice Creek (just after Champion Creek Road branches to the right) and park near the bathrooms. Cross the bridge and find Brice Creek trail # 1403, and follow it downstream for 1/4 mile. Just after crossing Trestle Creek, take signed Trestle Creek Falls trail # 1403C up Trestle Creek for 1/3 mile to the base of the falls, a total of 1/2 mile from the road. Additionally, Upper Trestle Creek Falls can be reached by hiking in 1 mile on Upper Trestle Creek Falls trail # 1403D, the trailhead for which is located on Brice Creek Road, just upstream of the bridge. This small, but exceptionally beautiful waterfall of Trestle Creek lay tucked in the back of a narrow gorge, just off a popular trail, and has just recently been 're-discovered' and popularized. Trestle Creek sprays 40 feet down a narrow slow into a pool surrounded with logs and mossy walls, and then flows towards Brice Creek through a lush forest. I imagine this location could soon become another Mecca for professional photographers, if it hasn't already. A recently constructed trail to 100-foot Upper Trestle Creek Falls also makes a loop hike possible in the area (unfortunately, I didn't have time to visit the upper falls). On my most recent visit, the falls had more water than pictured above, but the lighting couldn't have been worse, and I ended up outright deleting all the pictures I took because there was absolutely no way to salvage them, so if you want to properly photograph this waterfall, come during the early or late daylight hours (say within 2 hours of sunrise / set) or on an overcast day.
